Lots of coffee gets called “organic.” But certified organic is a different thing entirely — and it’s a distinction we take seriously.

Chiasso’s Dolce and Pascolo blends are fully certified by BioGro, New Zealand’s most recognised organic certifier. That little green logo on the bag isn’t just a sticker — it’s proof that the coffee has been properly audited, tracked and handled from origin through to roasting and packing.

Why we got certified

Our Dolce and Pascolo blends have always been made from coffee sourced from certified organic farms. But we wanted to go further and make that promise official, so our customers could buy with complete confidence.

For us, organic certification is about trust. It means the coffee is not just “organic-style” or loosely described as organic — it is independently certified and backed by a clear process.

What certification actually involves

Getting BioGro certified meant formalising processes we largely already had in place — which our auditor was pleased to find.

We roast our organic coffee on separate days from our regular coffee beans. Before organic production begins, the roaster and all packing equipment is thoroughly cleaned, without chemicals, to help prevent cross-contamination. Our storage, packing and grinding areas are also kept separate for organic coffee.

Every shipment of organic beans is tracked from the origin farm or co-operative, through importing channels, all the way to our roastery door — with batch documentation at every step. This chain of custody is central to BioGro’s standards, and it means we can show exactly where our organic coffee came from and which blends it went into.

Once roasted and packed, every bag carries the BioGro certification label and a batch number for traceability.

Which organic blend should I choose?

Dolce is our smooth, soft and sweet organic blend. It’s an easy-drinking all-rounder that works beautifully black or with milk.

Pascolo is our organic espresso bar favourite. It’s richer, fuller and especially good through milk — a great choice if you like a more café-style organic espresso.

Both are roasted by Chiasso in Auckland and fully BioGro certified from sourcing through to packing.
